Standard or high resolution?

Standard gives smaller files that look fine on a phone screen and in messages. High renders the page with more pixels, so small print stays readable when you zoom in and the image prints more cleanly. The trade-off is file size: high resolution images can be several times larger.

Quality is the JPG compression setting. A high setting keeps text edges crisp. A lower one makes smaller files but can leave faint smudges around text. For documents with lots of small text, high resolution with high quality is the safe choice. For a picture-heavy flyer going on Instagram, standard is usually plenty.

Things that change when a page becomes a picture

A JPG is a flat image. Text in it cannot be selected, searched or copied, and links stop working. Keep the original PDF for anything that needs those. JPG also has no transparency, so any see-through areas come out white. Your PDF is converted on your own device, which matters when the pages are statements, contracts or medical letters.
