Who we are
Files & Calcs (filesandcalcs.com) is run from the United Kingdom. For anything about your data, email hello@filesandcalcs.com.
Your files
Every tool runs in your web browser. When you add a photo, PDF, spreadsheet or text, it is read and processed on your own device. It is not uploaded to our servers or sent to anyone else. We never see your files or what’s in them.
Things saved in your browser
Some tools save things in your browser’s own storage so they’re there next time. This stays on your device, we can’t see it, and clearing your browsing data removes it:
- Recent files: copies of files you download, for 7 days (you can switch this off on the Recent files page).
- Invoice generator: your business details and last invoice number, if you tick “Remember my details”.
- Sign PDF: your signature, only if you tick “Remember this signature”.
- Word and character counters: the text you typed, so it isn’t lost if you close the tab.
How we count visits
We keep simple statistics so we know which tools are useful and whether pages load quickly. We do this without cookies and without storing anything on your device. When a page loads, your browser sends us:
- the page address, and the website you came from (just its domain, like google.com);
- any campaign tags in the link (such as utm_source);
- your screen width, so we know whether you’re on a phone;
- page speed measurements (how long the page took to appear and respond);
- which tools you used, the type and size of file, how long the job took and whether it worked. Never file names or contents;
- what you typed into the site search, so we can see which tools people are missing.
Our host tells us the country you’re visiting from. To count unique visitors without cookies, we combine your IP address and browser details with a random value that changes every day and is then deleted, and store only the scrambled result. We never store your IP address, and the scrambled code can’t be linked to you or to your visits on other days. We keep these records for up to 12 months.
If you contact us
When you use the contact form we store your name, email address, message, and the page you came from, so we can reply. We keep messages for up to 2 years, then delete them. Ask us and we’ll delete yours sooner.
Our lawful basis
We rely on legitimate interests to run and improve the site (the visit statistics) and to reply to messages you send us. The statistics are designed so they can’t identify you.
Who else is involved
The site is hosted by Cloudflare, which processes your IP address to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. Cloudflare acts as our processor. We don’t sell data and we don’t share it with advertisers. The one ad on the site is for our own products and is a plain link: it doesn’t track you.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Email hello@filesandcalcs.com. If you’re unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
