Which tool do I need?

Writing to a limit

The word counter shows words, reading time and your most used words. The character counter has presets for the UCAS personal statement (4,000 characters), X posts (280) and text messages (160).

QR codes that keep working

Our QR codes are static: the link is in the pattern itself, so they never expire and are not tracked. Download them as PNG or SVG for print.

Spreadsheets

CSV to Excel keeps leading zeros in phone numbers and postcodes. Excel to CSV can add a byte order mark so £ signs survive when Excel reopens the file.

Developer basics

The JSON formatter tidies and checks JSON and points to the line with the error. Base64 and URL encoding work in both directions and handle £ and emoji correctly.

Questions people ask

Is my text saved anywhere?

The counters keep your text in your own browser so it is not lost if you close the tab. It is never sent to us, and Clear removes it.

Do the QR codes expire?

No. They are static codes with nothing in between, so they work for as long as the link they point to works.

Which Excel files can I convert?

Modern .xlsx files. For an old .xls file, open it in Excel and save it as .xlsx first.
