How to merge PDF files

1. Add the PDFs you want to combine, or drop them onto the page.
2. Drag the files, or use the arrows, to put them in the right order.
3. Remove any file you added by mistake.

Why merging on your device matters

The PDFs people merge are often the private ones: three months of bank statements for a mortgage application, payslips for a letting agent, a passport scan plus a utility bill for proof of ID. Many online PDF tools send your files to their servers to do the work. This one reads and joins the files inside your browser, so nothing is uploaded and there is no copy sitting on someone else's computer afterwards.

It also means there is no queue and no size limit set by a server. Very large files are limited only by the memory on your phone or computer.

Getting the order right first time

The files are joined top to bottom, exactly as they appear in the list. A few habits save a second attempt:

• Put the document the reader expects first at the top, such as a covering letter or application form.
• For statements and payslips, go oldest to newest (or newest first if the recipient asks for it). Letting agents and lenders usually say which.
• If one file has pages in the wrong order inside it, merge first, then fix the pages with Reorder PDF pages.
• If a file has a password, remove it with Unlock PDF before merging.

The merged file keeps every page at its original size and orientation. If one document is landscape, it stays landscape. Use Rotate PDF afterwards if a page comes out sideways.

How big will the merged PDF be?

Roughly the sizes of the input files added together. Merging does not compress anything. If you need to stay under an upload limit, say 5 MB or 10 MB on a job portal, check the total before you start. Scanned documents are usually the heavy ones, because each page is a photo.
