Calculators

Quick answers for the sums that come up in work and everyday life: adding or removing VAT at UK rates, percentage changes, pricing for a target margin and more. Every calculator updates as you type and accepts numbers the way you write them, including "£1,200" and "1.2k".

Nothing you type is sent anywhere. The sums are worked out in your browser.

Which tool do I need?

Adding or removing VAT

Use the VAT calculator to add 20% to a price, or the reverse VAT calculator to take it off a total. To remove VAT, divide by 1.2: £120 including VAT is £100 plus £20 VAT. Multiplying by 0.8 gives £96, which is wrong.

Pricing a product

The margin calculator tells you what share of the selling price is profit. The markup calculator works from cost. A 50% markup on a £10 cost gives a £15 price, which is a 33% margin. If you are VAT registered, the profit margin calculator removes VAT first so your margin is not flattered.

Percentages at work and at home

Pay rises, price changes and discounts are all percentage sums. The percentage change calculator always divides by the starting value, and the discount calculator shows what a double discount really comes to.

Sending an invoice

The invoice generator builds a UK invoice with VAT by rate, bank details and a due date, then saves it as a PDF. Your business details stay in your browser for next time.
